potentials, through the ingenuity and devotion to duty of EOD members. It is
in memory of those EOD Officers and Assistants who gave their lives while
performing EOD duties.
The
Bomb
The
bomb is copied from the design of the World War II Bomb Disposal Patch. The
bomb represents the historic and major objective of the EOD mission, the
unexploded bomb. The three fins shown represent nuclear, conventional and
chemical/biological threats.
Lightning Bolts
The
lightning bolts symbolize the potential destructive power of a bomb and the
professionalism of EOD personnel in their endeavors to reduce hazards and
render explosive ordnance or explosive devices harmless.
The
Shield
The
shield represents the EOD mission -- to prevent or control the detonation
of explosive ordnance or explosive devices, protect lives, and prevent or
reduce damage to the surrounding area and property.

The shield in the background is drawn from the FBI seal in which the gold color conveys its over-all value and the scales represent justice. The significance of the red and white parallel stripes lies in their colors. Red traditionally stands for courage, valor, and strength, while white conveys cleanliness, light, truth, and peace. As in the United States flag, the red bars exceed the white by one.
